JCPOA must not be jeopardized: German envoy

TEHRAN, Nov. 02 (MNA) – German ambassador to Tehran highlighted Berlin’s role in the signing of the landmark 2015 Iran nuclear deal, saying the agreement must not be jeopardized.

German Ambassador to Tehran Michael Klor-Berchtold made the remarks in an opening ceremony for Iran-Germany Chamber of Commerce on Thursday in Tehran.

“It is important to Berlin that such a valuable achievement be preserved and the Iranian nation see its positive impact on their lives,” he said, adding “the new US strategy on delaying the final decision on the nuclear deal is to cause worries, and worry is like poison for the economy and we need to counter it.”

“Germany has always backed the Iran nuclear deal and will continue to do so with all its might,” he stressed.

According to him, Germany’s exports to Iran since the implementation of the JCPOA has increased up to 15 percent in areas related to capital goods, machinery and goods used in factories, which has in turn increased Germany’s GDP.

Iran’s Ambassador to Berlin, Ali Majedi, for his part, said that out of 350 projects considered for investment in Iran, 83 of them worth 11.3 billion euros belong to Germany.

“The fact that Germany has picked Iran as its new market is highly significant since 20,000 jobs in Berlin are related to the country’s exports to Tehran,” he added.
